Sherrie’s Story

Sherrie here.  I would like to get the password to chat.  Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to come much.  My breast cancer returned (I think I came in one time and told ya’ll that) and I went in on December 19th for a double mastectomy.  I haven’t been feeling well at all; my port (for chemo, which, by the way, I may decline) clogged up and I was hospitalized for 3 days over the weekend.

My new endo, who is actually a gynecologist, found this cancer during a routine pap and exam.  There is a site that I have visited called the “breast iodine theory”  http://www.bites-medical.org/brcan.html that says that constant fluctuation in thyroid levels, among other things related to the thyroid, cause breast cancer.  I have been on a roller coaster for the past 5 years with my thyroid.  I would go off the charts each time I had an infection, like staph and kidney.  Anyway, this doctor called to check on me and said, “you know, it’s the thyroid that causes this.”

I found out about this doctor through a lady I met on an airplane.  She suffers like us.  This doctor is in a small town about 100 miles south of Houston.  This lady and I made appointments and went together.  Funny, I had to travel to a town of about 30,000 to get treated.  Houston is supposed to be the “world’s greatest” in medical care.  Phewy!  Anyway, if you want this site, let me know (you may be able to do a search).  My laptop is down right now and I’m on my kids’ “pooter.”  I can’t get to my favorites right now.  I credit this guy for, ultimately, saving my life.  I had had check-ups like clockwork, every six months at the SUPPOSEDLY  “No. 1” cancer hospital, in the world.  Look what that got me!  It just goes to show ya, they have a huge advertising budget.

I’m having a lot of trouble with my implants (put in for reconstruction).  After reading the literature that the doctor gave me; AFTER THE FACT!, I’m afraid that they may end up causing a lot of problems.  It seems arthritis (I already have ankylosing spondylitis) is a much common occurrence with them among other “wonderful” things.

I haven’t been able to pull up the latest dates on your site.  I can pull up the old ones. Have you had anyone else tell you this?  I don’t know what the problem is.  I have passed a lot of your little diary on to my pain specialist.  He especially liked the thing about doctors.  I forgot what you called it, but it was the one that talked about how they are extremely busy and we should be feel “honored” to have to put up with their #$%&!  The pain specialist is so wonderful.  He got the biggest kick out of it.  He wanted a copy to post in his office.  I obliged.

I hope you are doing better.  I cannot tell you how much better I felt after going on the armour thyroid.  I tell you that synthroid almost killed me (had me ready to kill myself!).  I needed the T3 but the medical professionals told me I didn’t.  I cringe every time I hear someone tell me they are “taking synthroid.”  There are so many websites out there right now regarding the synthroid scandal.  I am thinking of starting my own website too, like you, to get the word out.  You did so much to confirm my symptoms.  Although he never said, I do not think my husband believed that the problem was real until he read your site and saw me all through it.

Remember the “theory” on this breast cancer and do your self-exams!  Also remember that I have had two completely different types of cancer and neither one showed up on the mammogram.  If you have a stinking suspicion, DEMAND an ultrasound or, better yet, a biopsy.

Feel free to post this email if you think it has any merit and might help ANYONE.  Hopefully, I will be able (to remember, lol) to stop in on Thursday.  I also hope things are looking up for you.

Love, Sherrie
